After eleven years of exile in Latin America and the Caribbean Eugenio Granell and his family settled in Puerto Rico in January 1950. The artist began to work as a professor of Fine Arts at the University of Puerto, Río Piedras Campus. This exhibition explores how Granell managed to form the first modern art school in Puerto Rico (1950-1959) through the teachings of Surrealism and Modern art. Also, it analyzes his plastic language during that time and how he helped develop the talent of Puerto Rican artists so that they could transition to a modern narrative in the next decades of plastic expression in Puerto Rico.
