Restoration Department
The Eugenio Granell Foundation would like to present a new section: the “Conservation-Restoration Workshop”, which has been newly created in order to preserve its own collections and all works included in temporary or travelling exhibitions organised by this Foundation.
Special interest will be given to their restoration and, above all, conservation, in order to keep them in the best possible state, not only to be admired by spectators but also with a view to their own durability.
Due to the great diversity of works, within the Eugenio Granell Foundation’s collections, made from such varied materials as: paper, fabric, metals, plant fibres, animal fragments, horns, furs, shells, etc; each piece will be treated individually, studying the restoration criteria in a non-traditional way. But ALWAYS with common guidelines:
- Legitimacy of the work, always working with the maximum respect for it.
- Reversibility of products and treatments.
- Minimum intervention.
The workshop’s functions include preventative conservation in order to avoid, as far as possible, major damage. Care is also taken as regards controlling the environmental conditions and the materials employed, thereby becoming a factor of great importance.
