EUGENIO GRANELL IN MOVEMENT

. Exhibition in Centro León in Santiago de los Caballeros.
Dominican Republic

On March 31st I was at the Centro León in Santiago de los Caballeros (Dominican Republic) in order to attend to the inauguration of Mr. Juan Manuel Portelas’s Dominican art collection. There are some works by Eugenio Granell, who the Dominicans consider as one of them. My father always liked this.
Granell left his mark in the Dominican Republic, where he arrived in 1940. He was a refugee and a exile after the end of the Spanish Civil War. Granell started painting in that Caribbean island, where he introduced surrealism and radically changed the island’s painting history. On April 1st I gathered with a group of people in front of Granell’s work and we talked about my father. It was a nice chat and the collectionist Mr. Portela, the Dominican art historian Danilo de los Santos and the the Director of the Centro León Carlos Uribe Uribe, among others, participated in the conversation.
