As Melanie Roumiguiere explains, What Looks at Me While Surrounding Me brings together, for the first time, “drawings, sculptures, film, and performance within a single constellation. Rather than following a chronological order or being organized according to the boundaries of each medium, the exhibition reveals how Alejandra Pombo Su’s artistic practice has evolved over the years as a continuous organism. Gestures, bodies, and motifs migrate from one work to another, changing form and reappearing elsewhere. The works remember one another. They continue to grow.”
Alejandra Pombo Su holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and a PhD in Fine Arts. Her doctoral research focused on the paradoxes arising from the incorporation of performance into contemporary art.
Her artistic practice moves across different media and contexts, encompassing performance, the visual arts, and audiovisual production. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and distinctions, and her work has been presented at leading institutions and venues including the María José Jove Foundation, La Casa Encendida, the Reina Sofía Museum, Fabra i Coats, and the Porto Municipal Gallery, as well as at numerous exhibitions, festivals, and art centers.
Her work stems from a fascination with those aspects of life that elude rational understanding and draws on personal experiences as the starting point for artistic inquiry. Her primary interest lies in delving into the unknown, exploring uncertainty as a territory of knowledge and creation. Since 2021, she has been a member of the collective NEG, a collaboration that, in her own words, has become one of the most significant influences on her current artistic practice.
