Curatorial Information:

We tell our story.
To Isaac Díaz Pardo

Our 20th century.
With the exhibition MASIDES we want to celebrate the 20th century and historical memory with fidelity and respect. We highlight the ups and downs of our Territory and its landscape, Society and the peculiarities of our eccentric and Atlantic European Culture.
The protagonists were not chosen at random:
– Castelao, standard, model and master
– Maside, disciple and teacher
They occupy the first half of the 20th century. Both lived through monarchy, dictatorship and republic, civil war and exile.
Since we are dealing with masters and disciples, in order to complete this journey we chose Xulio Maside, disciple and nephew of Carlos, for the second half of the century. Born in the Second Republic, his youth coincided with Franco’s regime before entering Democracy when fully mature. Unlike his predecessors, he enjoyed the first third of the 21st century.
All three represent the historical generations of the 20th century. From Castelao to the Grupo Nós. From Maside to the Generation of 1925, and from Xulio Maside to the Post-War Generation, throughout a long, very long dictatorship.
Three temperaments, reflected in their respective works, which have in common “Galicia comes first” and their incorruptible civic behaviour.
We endeavour to highlight the aspect that identifies them the most. The politician in Castelao, in Maside the artist, in Xulio Maside the passionate pursuit of freedom as plenitude.
