The Eugenio Granell Foundation presents the exhibition From top to bottom and from inside out by the artist Fernández Díaz Iago, a project curated by Eduardo Valiña that can be visited until January 17 of next year.

Iago Fernández studied Fine Arts at the University of Vigo and has a master’s degree in Creation and Research in Contemporary Art.

This exhibition is a journey through the most representative works of his output, presenting different disciplines such as installations, intervened objects, textiles, collage or photography, among others.

His project features different devices based on the mark we leave as human beings through various unrelated elements that establish a story about memory, a pretext to sublimate generational issues based on self-representation.

“In general, I tend to work through, almost always, the use of objects that belonged to people unrelated to me, what I call “memory objects.” These allow me to explore themes such as the passage of time, family, memory or the mark we leave as a human being. However, “From top to bottom and from inside out” is a project that is born from introspection and the analysis of my own memories and experiences. With it I try to reflect on topics such as dissidence, love, the lack of references when becoming an adult, magic, destiny or the sacred. It is a project with many references to key characters in my life, both anonymous and from popular culture such as Madonna, James Dean, Prince, Jean Genet or others of a more familiar nature or even some that are unknown. I strive to talk about memory, dissidence and resistance, but also about pain, sacrifice and martyrdom. It’s probably the most personal and profound project I’ve ever faced, it feels almost like baring a piece of my soul. The title comes from a reflection on the tarot cards that I use so many times in my artworks, and specifically through the Magician’s: <> All my life experiences led me to be here today writing this and creating pieces of art so that if someone sees themselves reflected in them, they know that they are not alone.”

In 2022 Iago won the “Xuventude Crea” Plastic Arts award with his artwork Eat the World. His work has formed part of various solo and group exhibitions such as Love is love, Restory Books, A Coruña (2025), the Museum of Pontevedra’s “Novos Valores” art award (2021), Ffoco (2018) or the 12th“Econtro de Artistas Novos de Galicia” (2022).
