ALBERTO OVEJERO. ESTRUCTURA DE UN ZUMBIDO

Imagen: Estructura de un zumbido

30 january – 4 may
Room 1. Second floor.

Alberto’s exhibition is marked by a strong autobiographical character, utilizing various formats such as illustrations, paintings, collages, and audiovisual pieces with a wide range of techniques, from oil and acrylic to graphite, with drawing as the main tool and medium of expression to channel his recurring thoughts in an exercise of self-healing. He refers to these thoughts as buzzes.

Estrutura dun zumbido encompasses a long process of personal reflection on issues and themes affecting his generation, such as sexual diversity, gender, and mental health, thereby provoking various questions in the viewer about identity and the human experience. Ovejero addresses the echoes of trauma and the past that resonate and compose his emotional map, which he deconstructs and redefines in the depths of his identity. His work delves into surrealism and symbolism, intertwining the boundaries of anatomy and emotional introspection. It is characterized by an unwavering exploration of the human form, often presented in a fragmented and distorted manner that invites viewers into a space of contemplation and unease.

His artistic project draws, among other influences, from surrealism to create a space that serves as a trigger, leading us into intimate worlds where we are challenged through a truly unique approach. His drawings, characterized by faint, hazy lines and muted colors, navigate between the childish and the eerie. They are inhabited by beings and elements that blend into a kind of composition, representing the set of buzzes that constitute the creator’s identity.

This exhibition completes a showcase that has toured various galleries and institutions. Ovejero also forms a music-performance duo with artist Sergio Marey.
