Throughout his life, Eugenio Granell was bound by an intermittent thread of chance to the world of engraving -surrealist fortune of intertwining of images and words.
The history of engraving is still linked to the desire of communication, being a means for sharing an image, a text or an idea. That is how Granell used it in his articles, his literary work and in the material advertising his exhibitions, from the forties to the seventies. Eugenio Granell, a tireless observer of the creative richness in the world around him, showed interest in the aesthetics of the engraving and its creative process, reflecting this in his studies, classes, his library and in specific contributions to special book editions. His etchings and silk-screens for the editions of: Les Iles Fortunées, La Kábala, Menú, etc., stand out. His hands engaged in a dialogue with the sonorous movement of the engraver’s punch on the sheet of zinc, in an act of absolute freedom, to create a series of engravings made, starting from the nineties, with a clear artistic intention, in collaboration with the engravers: Anelys Boza, María Muñoz, Pedro Arribas, Xurxo Fabeiro, and the galleries: EEGEE-3, La Kábala, Citania, who were able to extract the best essence from each idea. Granell’s world was thus democratized thanks to the sweet strokes of Indian ink mixed with sugar, to the grooves etched in varnish on the sheet of zinc. Textures and inks transferred to paper that are reborn thanks to the enchanted words of his literary universe. Proof of all of this is this compilation of graphic work, sheets and bibliographic material belonging to the Eugenio Granell Foundation Museum’s collection.
