ROJO. MAURO TRATOY

5 October, 2017 – 21 January, 2018 First Floor

On October 5, at 8 pm, the Granell Foundation will open the exhibition Rojo by Mauro Trastoy, which will be on display in rooms 4 and 5 on the museum’s first floor until January 21, 2018. The project is curated by Monse Cea.

The exhibition is the result of the artist’s residence in the Foundation from March to September this year.

Trastoy’s residence in the Foundation has served to highlight the essence of ten years of the artist’s work: a fertile period of reflection resulting in a special project made up of three installations.

In the exhibition, the work made during the residence will be accompanied by a small ensemble of previous artworks, which reflect the paths followed by the artist up to the present day.

In Rojo, drawing –the pillar of all the artist’s work– abandons the two-dimensional format and expands, acquiring a sculptural form with works that question the distance between art and craftwork. The year 2007 marks a change in paradigm, according to the artist, with regard to his previous work. Starting from digital drawing, the basis of his painting, Trastory opts for a type of drawing that extends its field of action by means of ancestral techniques of craftwork, such as weaving, wickerwork or ceramics.

The exhibition is made up of several installations featuring drawings embodied with several woven materials –wire, tape, hemp yarn– or ceramics.

Rojo will extend beyond its exhibition space, physically and conceptually. Simultaneously, Trastoy’s work will be on display, from different perspectives, in the museum and on his personal website The objective of this two-fold presentation is to create a more complete picture of the artist’s work.
