The Eugenio Granell Foundation is hosting, as of next Thursday, November 12, at 8 pm, the exhibition Luis Seoane. Voar por riba dunha torre de marfil, which can be visited until January 17, 2016.
With this exhibition, curated by David Barro and Carmela Montero, the Eugenio Granell Foundation is continuing with its exhibition activity commemorating its 20th anniversary (1995-2015).
The exhibition forms part of the collaboration established between the Eugenio Granell Foundation and the Luis Seoane Foundation, completing a series of exhibitions that included Eugenio Granell. O regreso dos amantes, which was on display in the Luis Seoane Foundation last summer.
The curators have structured an exhibition itinerary based on the declarations of Luis Seoane, who stated that the artist worked in his ivory tower, where he could hear the noises, groans and chains of ghosts. The artist rejects the isolation that may overcome the man that creates and creates himself in his studio, a physical, mental and even spiritual space of creation. Seoane, speaking about his time in Compostela, commented that we did not live in an ivory tower, we wanted to fly above it, to be higher up than it and, at the same time, excavate its foundations to find intellectual treasures.
Luis Seoanes contribution is essential in order to understand Galician art and culture; the artists multi-faceted nature and boundless curiosity resulted in a singular work ethic. A politically committed artist, he undertook a large amount of collective projects, collaborating with Anxel Casal and the Nós publishing company, and always open to the cultural expressions of his time. In addition to the expressiveness of the colour of his painting and his extraordinary sensitivity for drawing, his work also featured techniques such as engraving or mural painting.
The exhibition also highlights his publishing activity, expressed in his work as a book illustrator, cover designer, promoter of collections, magazine layout designer and editor, playing an essential role in the development of Argentinean books. In the business field, he played a decisive role in the rebirth of the Sargadelos ceramic factory, the Galician Laboratory of Forms and the opening of the Carlos Maside Contemporary Art Museum in Sada. His work as a radio journalist, poet, narrator, set designer, script writer or theoretician generated important reflections on the need for integrating the arts and architecture, on cinema and photography, and his personal vision combining universal movements and the Galician spirit. Always based on a politically and ethically committed attitude, shared with other artists such as Eugenio Granell or Carlos Maside.
