ANA GESTO. RETURN TO A PLATE

15 May – 14 September, 2014
Amparo Room. Second Floor

The exhibition “Return to a Plate” by Ana Gesto can be visited until September 14, in the Amparo Room on the Eugenio Granell Foundation Museum’s second floor.

“Return to a Plate” features the work of an artist who centres her interests in the scenic and documentary potential of the performance, using the body as a medium, exploring the sensorial relationship of other times and spaces. Ana Gesto’s work is presented by means of actions, in which subtle irony is employed or the public is involved by way of different stimuli. In the artist’s own words, “whether you like it or not, the idea is that the work does not go unnoticed, stirs up the observers’ feelings and invites them to reflect to a certain degree, turning them into active observers and therefore part of the work.” Each piece is unique in itself as part of a continuous production.

Ana Gesto, a performer and visual artist, earned a Fine Art degree at Vigo University and was a student of Bartolomé Ferrado at Valencia’s Fine Art Faculty; she also formed part of Vigo University’s “Research and Materialisation” research group. Her recent artistic career features works and performances selected at different festivals, such as Kounellis-Caixa Galicia Foundation. She participated in “Epipiderme – Encontros a volta da performance” (Lisbon); “Line Up Acción” (Coimbra); “Interakcje 2012 – International Art Festival (Poland); Acción!MAD11 8th International Action Art Gathering (Madrid 2011); Künstlerforum (Bonn, Germany); MARCO (Vigo) and the Women’s Museum (Costa Rico), among other events. She has also carried out non-institutional actions in the public space of different Spanish cities.
