ANTONIO CAÍÑA. Monton

4 July – 15 September
Philip West Room. Firts Floor

The Eugenio Granell Foundation presents the “MONTON” exhibition by Antonio Caíña, curated by Edu Valiña, which can be visited in the Philip West Room on the museum’s first floor until September 15.
Antonio Caíña is an artist that does not mix with the official or more visible circles and channels of today’s art. However, his work, like that of many other creators, follows a course of coherence, in this case linked to the intimate relationship with objects, opening up new ways of expression centred on this type of representations.
Not without references, it is directly linked to the technique immediately assumed by the Dadaist and surrealist movement, employed by Duchamp, Man Ray or Francis Picabia, among others. Caíña’s art starts mainly from recovered object, those that are conceived as lost or dispossessed of their value.
The aspiration of dignifying everyday objects is a challenge to what is considered art as opposed to that which is not. Most of the time, the object undergoes a modification, although not to the extreme of making it unrecognisable. The transformation leads him to designate it as a “found,” “modified,” “interpreted” or “adapted” object.
Following these approaches, Antonio Caíña shapes a work based on the use of small objects. He thus creates a micro-world by means of small compositions, establishing a show based on references to contemporary artists such as Jorge Machi. Antonio Caíña is a self-taught plastic artist and graphic designer. He has exhibited in different places: “Araguaney Foundation” International Art Biennial 2000, Ida (Madrid) 2002, MostraArtxove 2003, A Medusa (Santiago de Compostela) 2003, GaleríaEspacio 48 (Santiago de Compostela) 2004, El Raval (Barcelona) 2004, Seteflores (O Carballiño) 2010. He received an Honourable Mention in the Sculpture category at the “Ildefonos Sánchez Mera” Awards.
