The Fundación Granell has had an art competition for school-age children since 2004. Children from schools in the area, as well as individual children, submit drawings, paintings, collages, constructions and photographs. The works are shown for a week at the space set at the Fundación for activities dedicated to children. Local people form the jury, usually people related to the arts in the city of Santiago, serve as jury. There is one prize per category, and, at the end, there is a prize given by the public. Usually about 300 children participate and they take with them handsome prizes of an easel, brushes, paper, paint and drawing material which is generously donated by a local shopping area. Juan Carlos Losada, the manager, is fully involved in the process. He is also a juror and after the winners are announced post cards are made of the winners’ works. The winning works are kept at the Fundación, with the consent of the children, are framed or mounted so that they are on exhibit at all times in the Pedagogic department.
